History

At the end of the '70 on a small road full of snow in the Ardenne, 2  cars cross, each of them having a dogsled on the back of their cars.  Both driver stop, park their cars at the  side of the road and they discover they have the same passion : mushing !

They both are Belgian and their names are : Christian DEGRAEVE and Jean CROTTEUX. They decide to start a mushingclub, the first one in Belgium : "Belgian Musher Club".

The organisation comes slowly to live, according to the will of the seasons and has 5 true members.

From 1984 on new members join the club and having 1 of the 4 different Nordic dogbreeds.  Till today the are connected to a Belgian Club of Scandinavian dogbreeds.

The first contact has place in the woods of Vielsalm where all beginners really discover mushing.

Really quickly and with mouth to mouth advertisements they organised a trial in the woods of Bambush in

The club continues to grow and are obligated toe start a National Federation, also because of the contact with the ministry for getting their derogations.   But to do so they need at least 3 clubs that join the Federation and so 2 new clubs are created : PELSJAGER MUSHER CLUB and SNOW HOOK TEAM.

Snow Hook Team stays a long time just with 3 members only namely their foundators : Eddie COENYE, Peter DENNIS and Gilbert GERMEN.

These 3 friends have no other purpase then to share their passion with their dogs during moments of training and entertainment. So the name of Snow Hook Team was created that way, it means anker to the snow.  And it is their spirit to develop together with their dogs and grow together with their dogs without chasing absolute performances (Mush For Fun).

At the end of '86 the club decides to have their members follow this spirit to keep the motto : Mush For Fun !

Formerly called the club of the outsiders because the club had no prominent members.  So this last Club organised his first trial together with Pelsjager Musher Club.  It was the second editions of St Vith.

From the next year on only The Snow Hook Team has the licence to organise this trial, that is still organised today and is the most important trial of the year in Belgium.   It is the only trial where 2 disciplines are mixed together in 1 trial in the same weekend, namely the Sprint and the middistance.

The club has always excisted with a few members (25) during the first years of their existance.  Today the club has 35 members and a maximum of 45 is allowed.

The club wants to remain Belgian in a time Belgium is divided into different regions. So we have as members speaking French aswel as Dutch aswel as German.  They all find joy in the same thing : having come together with their dogs and their sleds as a coçmmun passion.

As Today The Snow Hook Team organises 2 international trials with sled (if there is snow) otherwise with cart and this always in the 2 different disciplines : Sprint and Middistance.

We organise many different activities like a week of training, a snowcamp, weekends of training, evenings , demonstrations...

The most important is that every members joins the life of the club and his activities and puts the welbeing of his dogs primarely. So we announce the motto : MUSH FOR FUN !
